The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County is the joint creation of the Hepatitis B Foundation and Delaware Valley College with a shared vision of sustaining the vitality and beauty of Bucks County and the region, as a place of discovery, education and job creation.Funded in part by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the more than $12 million Center is an impressive 62,000 square foot facility that opened in August 2006.The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County seeks to advance biotechnology in Bucks County and the surrounding region, maximize synergies between nonprofit scientists and their commercial colleagues, and launch new ideas and discoveries that will make a difference. The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to the creation of a world-class biotechnology center; to the promotion of regional economic development and job creation; and to the education and training of tomorrow’s researchers.The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County provides a unique and exceptional opportunity to bring scientists together from commercial, academic and nonprofit research organizations to pursue common research themes in an environment conducive to interaction, collaboration and focus.As home to nonprofit research organizations and commercial biotech start-up companies - the Hepatitis B Foundation and its research institute, the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research, Drexel Institute for Biotechnology and Virology Research of Drexel University, and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania – the Center will stimulate innovative research and serve as a valuable economic driver in the state.Featured research programs in the Center include proteomics, genomics, molecular biology, drug discovery and early detection of cancer. A common research theme for the nonprofit organizations is the problem of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and hepatitis C), and liver cancer, the most serious outcome of chronic viral hepatitis infections.

Mission:

The mission of the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research is to use discovery science to find new therapies for viral hepatitis and liver cancer; to advance its research discoveries through traditional scholarship and educational opportunities; to nurture biotechnology; and to promote public health outreach programs to improve the quality of life for those affected by viral hepatitis.
